A Nottingham Forest bid for Real Mallorca defender Antonio Raíllo is not being ruled out, according to Spanish outlet El Mundo.

The centre-back helped his current club to promotion into La Liga last season, playing 39 games and scoring twice in all competitions.

He arrived at the club from Espanyol where he played 65 games.

Raíllo is a ball-playing central defender who reads the game exceptionally well.

Back in January, the 27-year-old told Spanish outlet AS that he had turned down a ‘really good opportunity’ to sign for Forest.

The Cordoba-born defender has a release clause of £3.6 million, although Mallorca could be preparing to offer fresh terms.

Forest have already added six players to their ranks this summer. Sammy Ameobi, Aro Muric, Alfa Semedo, Yuri Ribeiro, Tiago Silva and Albert Adomah have all checked-in.

The Seat Pitch Summary

It would certainly surprise a few Forest supporters if the club was to pursue another central defender.

Right now, the Reds have Alex Milosevic, Tobias Figueiredo, Yohan Benalouane, Joe Worrall and Michael Dawson all vying for the two or three central defensive spots.

If Raíllo is added, something, or someone, will have to give.

The Spaniard is a decent player. He excelled as Mallorca won promotion last season and would have been a smart January signing for the club.

Forest have other areas that need addressing first.

Another right-back is a must; whilst another option to complement Lewis Grabban wouldn’t go amiss.

Raíllo would be a decent signing to make, but not yet.

The Reds are well-stocked at centre-back and for now, at least, they should strengthen in other areas as a priority.
