Jack Colback may hold a special place in the hearts of many at Nottingham Forest, but those feelings are not being reciprocated.
A former flame is currently back in the arms of another.
It may be time for the Reds to move on.
Let us not get caught up in emotions of the past and instead look to the future.
Rather than mope around, jump back on the wagon.
There are plenty more fish in the sea.
Or midfielders in this case.
Colback has said in the Evening Chronicle since being welcomed into the fold at Newcastle on the back of a second loan stint at the City Ground: “I went to Forest and really enjoyed my time there. Now maybe I’ve got half a chance back here, so we’ll see what happens.”
“It’s a bit unexpected, but that’s football sometimes.
Change

“Obviously, I knew I had a year left, but I wasn’t expecting to come back and be involved. Things can change.
“All I’ve got to do is apply myself and work hard for the team when selected.
“If I’ve got a realistic chance to play, then of course. I loved my time here when I was playing.
“It’s a great place to play, St James’s. I always gave 100% for the shirt. I’ll continue to do that if selected.”
Colback offered the same level of commitment to his relationship with Forest.
There was, however, always the threat of a fling being little more than a holiday romance.
He had to head back to Tyneside, while the Reds were left on Trentside.
Paths

Who knows, two paths may cross again.
The summer is not over yet and a window of opportunity remains open.
Forest, though, would be best advised to move on.
A rekindling of former passions is clearly not top of Colback’s list of priorities.
He has his sights set on winning the affections of a grander, Premier League admirer.
Which is fine.
We’ll all get over it.
Fond memories will remain, but for now those at the City Ground should be looking to find a new fancy.
There may already be someone on the books ready to fill the void and fix any broken hearts.
