Nottingham Forest defender Joe Worrall has featured heavily for the Reds in pre-season, but could he be on his way out?

The 22-year-old spent last season on loan at Scottish Premier League giants Rangers. Since returning to the City Ground, Sabri Lamouchi has certainly given him the opportunity to impress in pre-season.

Whilst there haven’t been any official reports as of yet, there has been speculation that the defender may be attracting interest from other sides. Hull City and Queens Park Rangers are the two sides said to be an eyeing a move.

Considering the amount of options the Reds have in that area of the pitch, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the defender leave. Michael Dawson, Tobias Figueiredo and Alexander Milošević are all arguably ahead of him in the pecking order.

Lamouchi also still has Yohan Benalouane and Michael Hefele in his squad, although the latter seems to have no future at the club. As it stands, Worrall is arguably fourth choice centre-back. In this case, it would only take a couple of injuries or suspensions for him to be in the team.

Worrall was heavily criticised for his performance in the 3-0 defeat to Olympiacos last week. However, he did look more assured playing alongside Milošević against Crystal Palace.

Potential

There’s no doubt that the 22-year-old still has the potential to be a solid defender at this level. It remains to be seen whether he will be given the opportunity to fulfil this potential at the City Ground.

If the speculation does have substance, then he may be the second academy graduate to leave the club this summer. Ben Osborn looks set to join newly-promoted Premier League side Sheffield United.

Some supporters aren’t too bothered about the prospect of the defender leaving the club, with some taking to Twitter over the last few days to share their thoughts.
