Bordeaux midfielder Younousse Sankhare has admitted that his future looks set to be away from the Matmut Atlantique.

Nottingham Forest are one of several teams to have been linked with the 29-year-old in recent weeks. Cardiff City, as well as newly-promoted Premier League side Sheffield United, have also been linked.

The Senegalese international played 33 games for the French outfit last season, bagging four goals and registering five assists.

Speaking recently to L’Equipe about his future, he said: “I do not understand the position in which I am. The coach (Paulo Sousa) made it clear that he was not counting on me, that I had to find a way out.

“Ok, but I will not leave for just any club.”

It seems unlikely that the midfielder has any future at the Matmut Atlantique. The 29-year-old has been at the Ligue 1 club for two years, but has not been able to win over Sousa. He was recently left out of the squad for Bordeaux’s pre-season tour.

The Reds were linked with a move for the midfielder via France Football. According to TEAMtalk, Cardiff City were leading the chase for his signature.

Considering the amount of midfield options Sabri Lamouchi already has at his disposal, a deal for Sankhare does seem unlikely. However, this could change if a couple of players leave the City Ground.

The Reds have already landed Alfa Semedo and Tiago Silva this summer, so they are well-stocked in that area of the pitch. Ben Watson also impressed supporters with his performance against Crystal Palace last week.

Clearly, Sankhare would be a good addition to any side’s squad. The midfielder, who is valued at £4.5 million (BBC), has the attributes to be a success in the Championship.

It will be interesting to see where he decides to head to for a new challenge. At this stage, a move to either Sheffield United or Cardiff seems a lot more likely.
