Could Manchester United hold the key to Nottingham Forest landing Jack Colback

Nottingham Forest will undoubtedly be looking to strengthen their squad prior to the big kick-off next Saturday.

The Reds face West Bromwich Albion in a televised fixture first up and a few more new additions would be ideal.

Forest have added six players to their ranks, but as ever, there is a need for more.

One man who supporters would love to see back at the club is Newcastle midfielder Jack Colback.

The midfielder played 54 times for the Reds during an 18-month spell with the club and proved popular among the City Ground faithful.

Perhaps bizarrely Manchester United could hold the key in terms of Forest realistically landing the ‘Ginger Pirlo’.

The Premier League giants are chasing Sean Longstaff. According to the Manchester Evening News, the midfield maestro is valued at £50 million by the Magpies.

Whether or not Colback will earn a St James’ Park reprieve probably depends on whether United go ahead with the big-money deal for the 21-year-old.

Boss Steve Bruce has claimed that Colback has a clean slate, according to the Shields Gazette.

Forest fans shouldn’t read too much into that though. Bruce is hardly going to say his career is finished at Newcastle, as he knows that he may well need him in the future. Essentially he needs him to keep working hard just in case.

Key figure

If United were to baulk at the bounty placed on Longstaff’s head it would enhance the chances of Colback heading out of Newcastle once again.

The 21-year-old would be an integral part of Bruce’s team, pushing the £35,000-a-week performer out of the first-team picture once again.

Of course, there is no saying at this stage whether or not Sabri Lamouchi and the club’s recruitment team would want Colback to return.

The supporters would relish the chance to see him in red again.

All eyes could lead towards Manchester United and whether or not they can secure a deal for Longstaff before the window closes.
