Nottingham Forest legend Stan Collymore has told Nottinghamshire Live that he fancies the club to do well in 2019/20.

The Reds will embark on their first season under boss Sabri Lamouchi and the ex-striker thinks they are in good hands.

The former fan favourite was quizzed about who he thought would challenge for promotion to the Premier League over the next nine months.

He told Nottinghamshire Live: “It’s almost impossible. My club, Aston Villa, we were dead and buried with 12 games to go and then went on a fantastic run.

“We’ve seen teams like Derby start well and fall away, they’ve done that in several seasons.

“Do I expect Forest to be competitive.

“I’d be very disappointed, with the coaching strategy, with the buying strategy of the club if they weren’t in the top six clubs this season.”

Collymore scored 41 league goals in 65 appearances for Forest, becoming one of the best players to ever wear the Garibaldi.

The Seat Pitch Summary

It is a bold prediction for Collymore to predict Forest to be challenging for promotion next season.

A lot will depend on how the club’s new players will adapt to life in the Championship.

It has been far too long since Forest had a genuine tilt at promotion and the challenge for Lamouchi is to realise the dream.

The Championship is an impossible league to predict. Right now, 15-18 teams will fancy their chances and Forest are no different.
