Nottingham Forest have confirmed the addition of Dynamo Moscow midfielder Samba Sow on their official website

The Mali international arrives from the VTB Arena on a two-year contract for an undisclosed fee and could go straight into the squad for Saturday’s opening game against West Bromwich Albion.

A 30-year-old, he has spent the last two years at Dynamo Moscow in the Russian Premier League. He made a total of 42 appearances for the Russian outfit after joining from Kayserispor.

He was left frustrated by injury at times last season, but when he did play he was predominantly utilised as a defensive midfielder.

Sow signed for Dynamo Moscow from Kayserispor in 2017, having previously spent time with Lens and Karabükspor.

The 30-year-old also has experience of representing his country on the international stage. He has made 36 appearances for Mali, contributing two goals so far. His international debut came in 2009 against Korea DPR.

Needed

Forest boss Sabri Lamouchi had previously spoken of his desire to add some physicality to his midfield options. Sow will add competition for the likes of Alfa Semedo and Ben Watson in the Reds squad.

There’s no doubt that the Reds needed another option in that department. The fact they have been unable to lure Jack Colback back from Newcastle United has left a significant void in the squad.

Following this latest signing, Forest supporters have taken to Twitter to offer their thoughts on the new recruit.
