Nottingham Forest are close to completing a deal for goalkeeper Brice Samba, after terms were agreed with Caen, according to French outlet L’Équipe

The only formality of the €2.1 million deal is to complete a medical which is due to take place today, according to Actu.

Samba has spent his whole career playing in France and is set to sign a four-year deal at the City Ground. He will be looking forward to trying to force his way into Sabri Lamouchi’s starting line-up.

The 25-year-old impressed for Caen in Ligue 1 last season. He became well-known for his speed across the line and his aerial presence. Statistically, he was one of the best performing goalkeepers in the division.

It is fair to suggest that Caen fans will be disappointed to see Samba to arrive at the City Ground.

They have been having their say on Twitter since the news of Forest’s interest broke and they aren’t impressed, as they feel that the goalkeeper is worth more than €2.1 million.

Here is a selection of tweets from Caen supporters following interest in the goalkeeper who made 38 appearances in Ligue 1 last time out.

‘Could become one of the best goalkeepers in the Championship’

One supporter said: “Very good goalkeeper in England. If the coach of Nottingham promotes him to Number 1, there is a good chance for him to become one of the best goalkeepers in the Championship. He was exceptional on his line many times. Treat yourself for €2.1 million.”

He added: “Take care of Brice. One of the nuggets of Ligue 1 that France has not been able to keep.”

Another said: “For €2.1 million, we are really pigeons.”

“He would have done better to stay, he would play Caen at least.”

“It’s abusing €2.1 million with the big season he had.”

It’s fair to say that there is a fair amount of scepticism surrounding this deal from Forest supporters. They don’t understand why the Reds need to add another goalkeeper to an ever-increasing squad.

However, the reactions from Caen supporters to this deal suggests Samba could prove to be an astute signing.
