Anyone fancy a midfielder?
Please, we have plenty!
Nottingham Forest are still on the street corner trying to offload the last of their merchandise as the summer market begins to wind down.
There are just a few days left now in which to push through any late sales.
English suitors in the top two tiers have already packed up and moved on to pastures new.
Windows remain open to the lower leagues and wider world.
Forest, doing their best Del Boy and Rodney impression, are going to have to get creative.
Especially when it comes to the goods in the box marked ‘Midfielders’.
Some takers have been found there, with five items offloaded.
The most recent deal saw Adlene Guedioura complete a switch to Qatari outfit Al Ghafara for an undisclosed fee.
Jamie Ward, Jorge Grant, Panagiotis Tachtsidis and Ben Osborn have also been moved on.
Sounds like a productive few weeks on the stall doesn’t it?
That is until you realise that there are still some 18 midfield options on the books at the City Ground.
Zach Clough and Arvin Appiah, who blur the lines somewhat as forwards, are included in that pack as attacking playmakers.
The others on a ridiculously long list are: Ben Watson, Joao Carvalho, Matty Cash, John Bostock, Alfa Semedo, Sammy Ameobi, Samba Sow, Ryan Yates, Joe Lolley…
…Claudio Yacob, Liam Bridcutt, Tiago Silva, Albert Adomah, Gboly Ariyibi, Brennan Johnson and Alex Mighten.
Cases can be argued for the vast majority of the above staying put.
There are, however, plenty of counter claims for others.
Along with a collection of centre-halves which now stands at seven and counting – eight if you wanted to include the versatile Jack Robinson.
Stockpiling on Trentside has got out of control!
With the problem being that too many of the assets are not all that saleable.
Dodgy deals have been done that would make Trotters Independent Traders proud.
Plenty of wheeling and dealing is now required.
Sabri Lamouchi and Nicholas Randall need to find their flat caps, gold chains and suitcases and see if anybody is still loitering near their stall in need of goods that have once passed through the hands of the likes of Leeds United, West Brom and Motherwell.
Only Fools and Forest!
