Joe Lolley is comfortably Nottingham Forest’s most important player and on his day he is one of the Championship’s top performers.

The winger is arguably one of the best pieces of business ever done by the Reds, signing from Huddersfield Town for an undisclosed fee in 2018.

A 27-year-old, Lolley enjoyed a standout campaign for Forest last season, bagging 12 goals and registering 11 assists.

Lolley is a popular figure on and off the pitch – and not just with his Forest team-mates.

Earlier this month a photo emerged on Twitter showing Lolley and ex-Forest goalkeeper Luke Steele enjoying a round of golf with England cricketers Stuart Broad and Ben Stokes.

Lolley might have been friendly with Ashes hero Stokes during their previous game of golf but a cheeky tweet to Stuart Broad today hints that he isn’t keen on his choice of football club.

Stokes who scored 135 not out as England beat Australia in the third Ashes test last weekend has today revealed himself as a newly-pledged Tottenham fan after the Premier League outfit sent him a shirt with his name on.

It’s a decision which Stokes has slammed Broad for:

Forest fans have naturally lapped up Lolley’s response to Stokes’ tweet, although given his cricketing exploits this summer, he will probably be forgiven.

Big-game player

Lolley wrote his name into Forest folklore on Tuesday night when he scored against Derby County in the 3-0 thrashing of the Rams in the Carabao Cup.

The 27-year-old is a crucial part of Sabri Lamouchi’s team and he will go in the search of more goals when Preston North End arrive at the City Ground.

It remains to be seen whether Lolley and Broad can get Stokes down to the City Ground and convert him to a Forest fan.
