Arvin Appiah has completed his switch to Spanish outfit Almeria on transfer deadline day with Nottingham Forest recouping £8 million for their academy graduate.
The move was confirmed by Forest on their official website and see the club cash in on another of their promising young talents.
Appiah leaving isn’t really surprising as such. It had been anticipated that he might leave, although a Football League loan move was more likely.
Recouping £8 million for a player who hasn’t featured in a squad for a league game under Sabri Lamouchi does seem like an attractive piece of business for Forest.
Appiah has been at Forest since the age of 9 and made his first-team debut against Burton Albion in the Carabao Cup last season – a game he would also score in.
That proved to be his only goal from six appearances with the last coming against Fleetwood in the League Cup earlier this season.
Forest supporters have seen Oliver Burke and Ben Brereton come through the academy ranks and then be offloaded in recent years.
Those deals turned out to work quite well for Forest financially so hopefully, the case will be the same with Appiah.
Forest fans have naturally taken to Twitter to discuss the departure of Appiah and here is a selection of tweets from supporters:
Good deal all round for everybody..!!

Weird transfer but decent money

The lad looked like he would have a big future with us.

What about Leeds selling Clarke? Swansea selling James? Brentford selling Maupay? Last year Norwich had to sell Maddison, Middlesbrough the same with Traore. It’s a shame but it’s not just a Forest thing

To put the Appiah sale into perspective. Leeds sold Clarke (who’s the same age as Arvin) for the same fee, who was absolutely massive for them last season. Absolutely quality business from Forest considering Appiah is an impact sub at best for this season.

Stop mourning the sale of Appiah like it’s the death of #nffc. The lad’s a talent, but not any better than what we have. The likes of Johnson, Mighten and Yates have surpassed his development, too. £8m for a lad who’s started a handful of games is another Marinakis masterclass.
