Nottingham Forest added 12 players to their ranks during the summer months as boss Sabri Lamouchi set about making his own mark on the squad.

A report from the Nottingham Post, however, suggests that the Reds could have added one other player to their ranks.

Marcus Edwards swapped Tottenham for Portuguese outfit, Vitoria de Guimaraes, this week; although he could have easily headed for the City Ground.

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino once dubbed Edwards the ‘mini-Messi’ following his debut for Spurs – a 5-0 win over Gillingham in the League Cup (The Sun).

The 20-year-old failed to have an impact on the first-team at Tottenham. He went out on loan to Norwich and Excelsior Rotterdam and has now penned permanent terms in Portugal.

It is thought that the flying winger trained with Forest’s Championship rivals Brentford and Italian club Udinese during the summer; although nothing materialised.

Forest are well-stocked out wide but if Edwards does well with Vitoria supporters might wonder what might have been.

Seat Pitch Summary – Edwards would have ticked a lot of boxes in the eyes of Forest supporters

One of the complaints among a lot of Forest supporters this summer was that the players being pursued were unknown quantities.

Edwards has been on the books at Tottenham for many years and wouldn’t have been. That would have surely delighted some supporters.

He would still have represented a gamble, however. With just two first-team appearances to his name in English football, he would have been a signing based on potential rather than proven quality.

Forest landed Albert Adomah and Sammy Ameobi in the summer and both players operate out wide.

The duo boasts far more Championship experience that Edwards and on the face of things Forest probably made a sensible cal not to sign Edwards.
