Nottingham Forest duo Brennan Johnson and Arijanet Muric have both been called up to represent their respective international sides.
Muric has been called up to the Kosovo squad ahead of their Euro 2020 Qualifiers against Czech Republic and England.
The 20-year-old goalkeeper joined the Reds on a season-long loan from Premier League giants Manchester City earlier this summer. It’s fair to say that he’s endured a difficult start to life on Trentside.
Muric was named in Sabri Lamouchi’s starting line-up for the first four games of the season in the Championship.
However, his performances were far from convincing, and he was arguably at fault for both goals against West Bromwich Albion on the opening day.
He hasn’t made an appearance for the Reds since the 1-1 draw away against Charlton Athletic last month. Since then, Lamouchi has favoured Brice Samba over the 20-year-old.
There’s no doubt that the international break has come at a good time for him. He’ll be hoping that he can get some minutes under his belt for his country.
Not only this, but a game against England at St. Mary’s Stadium live on television next week provides him with the perfect opportunity to make an impression. Lamouchi is likely to be watching, along with the majority of the Reds faithful.
As well as Muric, Brennan Johnson has also been selected for the Welsh Under-21 squad for their upcoming European Championship Qualifiers.
The 18-year-old midfielder has been a surprise inclusion in Lamouchi’s squad so far this season. He has made three appearances for the Reds so far, with two of these coming in the Carabao Cup.
He will be hoping to be named in Paul Bodin’s starting line-up for the games against Belgium and Germany. Both of these games will be played at Wrexham’s Racecourse Ground, so the youngster won’t have much travelling.
It’ll be interesting to see how the duo perform on international duty. It makes a difference from this time last year when the Reds had 11 players from the first team, Under-23s and Under-18s squads going away with their international sides.
