Former Nottingham Forest defender Steve Chettle has told Tribal Football that Stan Collymore was the best player he ever played with at the City Ground.
The likeable central defender was a fan favourite on Trentside and spent 13 years as a player with the Reds.
Chettle famously scored Forest’s goal in a 2-1 defeat away at Bayern Munich in the UEFA Cup quarter-final in 1996.

Having been asked to pick the best player he played with during his time with Forest, Chettle opted for the man who scored 45 goals during a two-year spell with the club.
He told Tribal Football: “The best player I played alongside is Stan Collymore. He had everything. I’ve compared him, maybe rightly or wrongly, to the old fashioned number nine Ronaldo.

“He could do everything, especially the year when we finished third in the Premier League. He scored some unbelievable goals and he was the best I played with in a Forest team.”
Collymore signed for Liverpool for £8 million after leaving Forest and as part of the club’s 150th-year celebrations he was named in the all-time Nottingham Forest XI.

Chettle is currently the manager of the non-league outfit Basford United, having spent time coaching at Notts County.
He was a popular figure with the club’s supporters and played over 400 times for the Reds.
His partnership alongside Colin Cooper formed part of a largely successful period for the club. Forest finished third in the Premier League during the 1994/95 campaign; a finish which remains the best top-flight finish from a newly-promoted side in the Premier League era.
