Former Nottingham Forest youngster Arvin Appiah made his first appearance for UD Almería at the weekend.

The 18-year-old played for the entirety of the game in a goalless draw away against Deportivo de La Coruña in the Segunda División. The last time Appiah was involved in a first team match was for the Reds against Fleetwood Town in the first round of the Carabao Cup in August.

Having struggled to force his way into Sabri Lamouchi’s starting line-up, he will be hoping to ignite his career in Spain. He’ll certainly be pleased to have got his first appearance under his belt.

The youngster recently shared a message on his social media account. It reads: “Hard earned point last night against a tough side, but happy to make my debut for Almería.”

Considering he only made eight appearances during his spell with the Reds, it’s somewhat a surprise that Almería were willing to pay £8 million for the youngster. Although, it’s fair to say that he still has the potential to develop into a top player in the future.

There’s no doubt that there was a considerable amount of excitement when the youngster initially broke through at the City Ground. However, he struggled to make an impact whenever he was thrown into the side against Championship opposition.

His only goal for the Reds came in the Carabao Cup defeat away at Burton Albion last season. He was certainly highly-regarded at the club during his time at the City Ground.

It’s fair to say that an offer of £8 million was too good for the club to turn down. Lamouchi will be hoping that the money can be reinvested into his squad in a few months.

It’ll be interesting to see how his career develops from this point. He has the potential to go on to become a fine player. However, he wasn’t going to get many opportunities at the City Ground.
