Nottingham Forest are set to return to Championship action this weekend as they travel to the DW Stadium to face Wigan Athletic on Sunday.

Sabri Lamouchi’s side have enjoyed a two-week break from competitive action for the international break. The Reds are currently on a 10-match unbeaten run, having not lost since the opening day of the season against West Bromwich Albion.

The Reds will fancy their chances of extending that run against the Latics.

Paul Cook’s side have made a disappointing start to the season in the Championship. They are currently sat just three points clear of the relegation zone.

The Reds are likely to come up against a player they were reportedly interested in signing towards the end of last season under the management of Martin O’Neill.

Interest

According to the Daily Mail, O’Neill was interested in bringing Gavin Massey to the City Ground. The likes of Derby County and Queens Park Rangers were also reportedly monitoring the 27-year-old’s situation.

However, the winger opted to remain at the DW Stadium as he signed a new two-year contract at the end of the season.

It’s fair to say that Lamouchi strengthened his wide options with arguably more established players this summer. The likes of Albert Adomah have added real strength in depth to the squad.

Massey attracted the attention of numerous other sides last season as he scored five goals in the Championship in 20 appearances for the Latics. However, he hasn’t really been able to replicate that level of performance so far this season.

He has made nine appearances in all competitions so far, but hasn’t been able to contribute with a single goal as of yet.

It’ll be interesting to see how he performs against the Reds this weekend.
