The nephew of Nottingham Forest defender Michael Dawson could be set for a stunning switch to Arsenal, according to The Sun. And the Reds star has joked that he is signing for the wrong team in North London!

The 35-year-old was speaking to Talk Sport about Joey Dawson’s potential switch to the Gunners.

The 16-year-old became Scunthorpe United’s youngest ever first-team player back in August when he came off the bench against Derby County in the Carabao Cup.

Joey is the son of former Forest academy prospect, Andy, and is now wanted by the Premier League giants.

His dad left Forest without making a first-team appearance at the City Ground. He would become a real hero with both Hull City and Scunthorpe though, playing over 500 professional games.

Michael told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast: “When I saw the rumour the other day I thought he’s signing for the wrong side in North London!

“He’s 16, who started as a scholar in July and then he got an opportunity at Scunthorpe with Paul Hurst and Chris Doig.

“He’s good on the ball and he’s young; if he keeps his head down, keeps working, you never know where that will lead.”

Michael is in his second spell at Forest and has made 107 appearances for the Reds; whilst he also made 324 appearances for Arsenal’s fierce rivals Tottenham.

Seat Pitch Summary – Should Dawson be asking Forest to take a look at highly-rated nephew?

If Michael Dawson said jump to a lot of people at the City Ground the natural reaction would be to simply ask how high?

His status at the club is borderline legendary having come through the ranks, left to become one of the best defenders in the country and then returning several years later.

Forest have a history of nurturing young talent and perhaps the central defender should be chewing Gary Brazil’s ear asking him to take a look at his relative.

He is a central midfielder who is decent on the ball, tall for his age and capable of breaking up play.

The pathway to the first team would be far clearer at Forest than it is at Arsenal and following his cheeky jibe towards Arsenal, perhaps Dawson could turn his attention towards the City Ground.
