Former Nottingham Forest midfielder Scot Gemmill told the Daily Record that Reds target Billy Gilmour will shine in the Premier League.
The 18-year-old signed for Chelsea from Rangers for £500,000 (Sky Sports) back in 2017 and has this season made his first-team debut at Stamford Bridge.
He played the full 90 minutes in a 7-1 win over Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup and also made a Premier League debut as a substitute against Sheffield United.
Gemmill spent nine years at Forest playing 245 games for the Reds. He is now the Scotland under-21 manager where Gilmour has collected 11 caps.
He believes that the composed midfielder could have a very bright future in the game.
Gemmill told the Daily Record: “He can absolutely handle the big time, 100 per cent. There is no question over his emotional intelligence and his attitude.
“He is ready but he has to continue to push and push as that’s really all he can do right now.
“He’s ambitious, he’s focused and he’s extremely talented.”
Whether Gilmour ends up departing Chelsea on loan in January remains to be seen. He was denied a temporary switch during the summer but Lampard could change his stance in January.
It is all likely to depend on just how much football Chelsea see him playing during the second half of the campaign.
A move to Forest would only be likely to happen should the Reds make some sort of guarantees over game time. It would be pretty pointless for both parties if he was to go anywhere and now play plenty of football.
The Reds boast lots of midfielders within their ranks but if Lamouchi believes he can be the missing piece of the jigsaw to secure Premier League football, then he may well pursue his signature.
Gemmill clearly rates the 18-year-old highly and it remains to be seen what the future holds for the youngster.
