The Reds pounced to sign Dawson on a free transfer last summer, landing him after his Hull City contract came to an end.

Dawson’s move was an emotional one, returning to his boyhood club after more than 15 years away, having left Forest for Tottenham Hotspur in 2004.

Not many fans need convincing that Dawson’s return was a wise move, but he has endured consistent injury woes since returning to the City Ground last summer.

The 35-year-old is out of action right now, so hasn’t had a part to play in either of the two recent defeats against Wigan Athletic and Hull City. This has helped maintain his exceptional record of losing just one game since returning to the club. He currently has a win percentage of 64% in his second spell on Trentside.

There’s no doubt that the Reds miss his leadership on the pitch when he isn’t in the side. He has experience of playing for Tottenham in the Champions League which allows him to command respect from his teammates.

It’s no coincidence that the Reds tailed off when he picked up an injury last season. Lamouchi’s side need to ensure that they don’t suffer the same fate this time round.

Speaking on Dawson’s current progress, Lamouchi told BBC Radio Nottingham: “He will train with us next week, I hope, so good news!”

It’s fair to say that Dawson’s current injury isn’t as serious as the injuries he suffered last season which saw him miss the majority of the season.

The Reds will be hoping he is back in the side for when they travel to Kenilworth Road to face Luton Town next weekend.
