Yohan Benalouane shared a post on Instagram that could suggest he is about to return to training at Nottingham Forest following his recent injury.

The Tunisian international hasn’t played since being sent off for denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity in a 2-0 defeat to Sheffield United in April.

Since then he has been out with an injury but his latest uploaded post to his Instagram story does suggest that a return could be imminent.

The image shows the centre-back sat in his car outside the club’s training facility and naturally that will spark intrigue among Forest supporters.

Benalouane might well be nearing a return to full fitness but it will be interesting to see what the future holds for him now.

The man with five caps for his country signed for the Reds when they were desperately short of central defensive options. That simply isn’t the case anymore and it would come as little surprise if Sabri Lamouchi deems him surplus to requirements.

Forest paid a fee for Benalouane and releasing players signed in such fashion typically impacts Financial Fair Play proceedings.

Releasing him might not be an option but Forest could actively try and get him fixed up with another club during the forthcoming January window.

Benalouane will find himself behind Michael Dawson, Joe Worrall, Chema Rodriguez and Tobias Figueiredo in the pecking order for a place in Lamouchi’s team.
