Nottingham Forest’s conquerors, Arsenal played out a thrilling 5-5 draw in their latest Carabao Cup contest with Liverpool last night. The Champions of Europe edged out the Gunners 5-4 on penalties.

Arsenal kept up their free-scoring run in the cup, scoring five for the second successive game having put the same amoung beyond Sabri Lamouchi’s team in the previous round.

The Gunners obliterated that night and the team that Unai Emery has selected for the cup competitions has arguably been better to watch than the one he has chosen for the league.

Matty Cash played 90 minutes at the Emirates Stadium and he will have seen the Arsenal talent on display at first-hand. Following last night’s game, he took to Twitter to ‘applaud’ the sensational Mesut Ozil with a series of emojis:

Cash has been a revelation for Forest this season and has started all but one of Forest’s 13 Championship fixtures. His good form has coincided with Lamouchi utilising him at right-back after injuries to Tendayi Darikwa and Carl Jenkinson.

Arsenal star Ozil hasn’t quite had the same joy with team selection as Cash and finds himself facing a fight for his future.

Frustration

The man paid £350,000-a-week (Spotrac) is seemingly not in Emery’s long-term plans and his game time this season has been restricted to the Carabao Cup and 71 minutes of a Premier League game against Watford.

It will be interesting to see what happens when the January transfer window reopens.

Cash came up against Ozil in the 5-0 hammering back in September and that experience will have been good for the Forest youngster.

He will hope to retain his place in Lamouchi’s team this weekend when Forest head to Luton looking to get back to winning ways.
