Former Nottingham Forest striker Neil Harris has told Talk Sport that his time at the City ground was a ‘real career disappointment’.
The talismanic frontman joined the Reds from Millwall in 2004 and after scoring for fun for the Lions he was expected to be a tremendous signing for the club.
It didn’t quite transpire that way and in 33 appearances on Trentside, he managed just one goal for the Reds.

Harris has recently departed the New Den where he spent four years as the club’s manager. During that time he won promotion the Championship via the League One play-offs and stabilised the Lions as a second-tier outfit.
The Forest flop highlighted the regret he holds about moving to the City Ground.
He told Talk Sport: “I think that sort of club (Millwall) was my real home. You know, clubs with the workmanlike fanbase, that was really for me.
“I went to Forest, I should have stayed at Cardiff really. That was probably the real disappointment in my career.”

Despite signing for the Reds in 2004 it would take Harris 21 months to score his first and only goal for Forest.
Flop
It came in a 4-0 win over Chesterfield and was met with relief after waiting so long for a goal for the club.
Harris does have a point in suggesting that he was never quite right for Forest. Certain clubs suit certain players and Millwall proved the right fit for Harris.

With 138 goals he is the club’s all-time leading goalscorer and he would have surely loved the chance to showcase his talents on a bigger stage at Forest.
That didn’t transpire though but fortunately for Harris, he was still able to forge a solid career. He is now a well-respected manager who will surely return to work very soon.
