Nottingham Forest defeated Derby County 1-0 on Saturday to win the East Midlands bragging rights for the third time in succession.
Lewis Grabban’s only goal of the game decided the contest and Forest fans now have two weeks until the game to revel in their success.
One man who appears to be enjoying the win is champion golfer Lee Westwood.
Born in Worksop, Westwood has 43 wins as a professional although at 46-years-old he is yet to taste success in one of the sport’s four major tournaments.
A lifelong Forest fan, Westwood has taken to Twitter to remark on the club’s tweet regarding ‘obscene’ skill from Tiago Silva.
The Portuguese maestro produced a dazzling display but his piece of trickery to get beyond Duane Holmes in the second half really was a joy to behold.
Westwood was clearly an admirer and tweeted a cheeky two-word analysis of the skill:
Silva really came of age on Saturday and produced easily his best performance in the red of Forest.
Coming of age
Lots of talk recently in the stands has been whether Silva deserves his place at the expense of Joao Carvalho. Based on his latest performance, however, he is more than deserving of his place in the side.
The midfielder arrived at Forest from Feirense during the summer and has taken some time to adapt to the Championship.
Saturday showcased exactly what sort of player he is and Forest will hope that he can really kick on now.
Westwood is running out of time to win a major tournament but he will perhaps look to use Forest’s revival as inspiration.
Widely regarded as one of the tour’s best players to not win one of golf’s big prizes, Westwood will surely not be throwing the towel in on his quest just yet.
