Former Nottingham Forest striker Daryl Murphy has got off to a good start at Bolton Wanderers.

There’s no doubt that out of all the players who left the City Ground in the summer, Murphy was the one who had contributed the most for the Reds. He could certainly leave with his head held high.

After signing from Newcastle United under the management of Mark Warburton, Murphy was certainly a useful asset for the Reds and scored 11 goals. It wasn’t enough to see him kept on this season though, as he left to join Bolton.

It’s fair to say that he arrived at the Macron Stadium during a period of off-the-field turmoil. This wasn’t an ideal situation for any of the players joining the Trotters over the summer.

However, the Trotters have started to pick up some positive results of late under the management of Keith Hill. Murphy has played an integral role in this upturn in form.

Now 36-years-old, Murphy has already scored three times in just six appearances in League One this season.

Experience

Murphy’s latest strike was the winning goal in Bolton’s 1-0 win over MK Dons on Saturday. This came just moments after the experienced striker had missed a penalty.

Having someone with the experience of the striker could be crucial for the Trotters this season. If they are to miraculously stay in League One, then they’ll need Murphy to stay fit and continue to score goals.

Of course, Murphy isn’t the only familiar face at Bolton. Liam Bridcutt is also currently out on loan at the Macron Stadium.

It’ll be interesting to see how the duo continue to perform for Bolton throughout the rest of the season.
