Nottingham Forest defender Michael Dawson celebrated his 36th birthday yesterday and that led to supporters of his current and one of his former clubs paying tribute to the defender.

Dawson can do no wrong in the eyes of Forest supporters. He is arguably the best academy graduate to ever emerge from the youth ranks and boasts over 100 appearances for the club.

Tottenham fans hold him in similar regard. The man with four England caps played 324 times for Spurs and endeared himself to supporters in the process.

Dawson’s career is quite clearly in the twilight stages now but when called upon this season he has looked as solid as ever.

Alongside Joe Worrall, he was part of a team that suffered just one defeat in nine games at the start of the season before picking up an injury against Stoke in September.

He hasn’t featured since that game, although he could be close to a return when Forest travel to Bristol City this weekend for a Championship six-pointer.

Dawson still playing at 36 isn’t really a surprise. He has always looked after himself and but for a few injury concerns during his career, he would have played a lot more games.

Following his birthday yesterday, Spurs fans were quick to wish Dawson well and look back on his time in North London with huge fondness.
