Boss Sabri Lamouchi will be delighted with a point away at a rival for a top-six place. His team now go to Queens Park Rangers in confident spirits.
Following the contest, we looked at four talking points involving Nottingham Forest and their performance:
Samba close to a ban
The 25-year-old goalkeeper collected his fourth yellow card of the campaign at Ashton Gate and one more would result in a one-game suspension.

The Congolese stopper must now tread carefully. Aro Muric is waiting in the wings and he will be relishing the chance to try and reclaim his spot.
Forest need Samba. He has proved himself to be top class this season and it will be interesting to see if he changes his approach during the next few weeks.
Figueiredo proving his worth
The Portuguese defender has been in and out of the team this season. He once again started for the Reds against Bristol City, however, looking in decent form.

The next few months are massive for the 25-year-old. With Michael Dawson now fully fit and Chema Rodriguez chomping at the bit, he will need to maintain his performance levels.
Figueiredo has always had the ability, now he must gain the consistency to keep in Lamouchi’s good books.
What to do with Ryan Yates
The foolish dismissal of the youngster has sparked debate among Forest supporters. Should he be loaned out? Let off and considered a typical moment of inexperience?

Whichever approach supporters have on the matter, it’s hard to condone his actions on Saturday. One thing is certain, Lamouchi won’t tolerate the same mistakes being made over and over again.
Yates now has a spell on the sidelines. With Alfa Semedo and Samba Sow working back to full fitness, that stint might be longer than the three games he misses through suspension.
Resolve
Another clean sheet and another game where Forest have stopped a very good side from causing any real danger.

Bristol City didn’t have a single shot on target on Saturday. Joe Worrall and Figueiredo stood from; with both full-backs also putting in a real shift to thwart the wide threat.
Lee Johnson said afterwards that his side had let Forest off the hook. In truth, however, they never looked like scoring.
Lamouchi will be delighted with Forest’s resolve. Bristol is typically an unhappy hunting ground for the Reds but this performance will raise expectation levels.
