Andy Reid takes sarcastic aim at Nottingham Forest legend

Nottingham Forest read the riot act to QPR, demolition Mark Warburton’s team 4-0 at the Kiyen Prince Foundation Stadium.

The Reds won the day thanks to goals from Tobias Figueiredo, Lewis Grabban, Joao Carvalho and Alfa Semedo.

QPR’s task was made all the more difficult when Lee Wallace was dismissed just after the break.

One aspect of the game that made Andy Reid take to Twitter was the goal scored by Lewis Grabban.

The 31-year-old’s strike was his eighth of the season. The goal was stereotypical of a poacher but it led to Reid taking a cheeky dig at a former Forest favourite.

Back in August, ex-Reds defender Kenny Burns suggested that Forest should sell Grabban and sign Dwight Gayle (Nottinghamshire Live).

Since then the striker has set about proving the former European Cup-winning enforcer wrong.

Reid clearly found his comments amusing and after goal number eight of the campaign he took to Twitter:

Reid played over 300 games for Forest across two different spells. He was forced to retire in 2016 following a troublesome groin problem.

It’s fair to say that he gets modern-day football, however, and he is right to throw his weight behind Grabban.

Gripe

Some supporters have correctly called out Burns in the past for his overly critical assessments of various players.

Grabban on his day is among the most feared marksmen in the Championship. Supporters buy into that so quite why Burns seems hellbent on knocking his confidence is a mystery.

Luckily the former Red doesn’t share the opinion of every player to have ever graced the City Ground and Reid has clearly thrown his support behind Grabban here.

The challenge facing Forest is keeping Grabban fresh. With the unproven Rafa Mir in reserve, the Reds could face a real struggle should he pick up an injury at all.
