Matty Cash has been rewarded for his fine Nottingham Forest form with a new long-term contract.
The 22-year-old has been reborn this season in an unfamiliar right-back role. Typically a winger, Cash has been forced into defence following injuries to Carl Jenkinson and Tendayi Darikwa.
Forest are currently in fourth place in the Sky Bet Championship and Cash’s solid form has contributed to that.

Premier League clubs have reportedly shown tentative interest (The Sun). As a result, tying Cash to a new deal was an absolute must for Forest.
The academy product made his first-team debut on the opening day of the 2016/17 campaign.
Since then he has played over 100 times for the club and is now an established member of the senior ranks.

His form at right-back has been so impressive that both Jenkinson and Darikwa may both struggle to force their way back into the team when they are fully fit.
Following news of his new deal, Cash took to Twitter to put some thanks on record:
Cash’s rise to prominence is once again another feather in the cap of Gary Brazil.
The club’s academy director comes up trumps time and time again, producing players who are capable of playing for the first-team.
Where Forest excel is that the academy players who do step-up tend to stick around. They aren’t picked until they are ready but then they do showcase enough talent to keep them in the manager’s plans.

A new contract for Cash is another pleasing factor of the week so far. A point with 10-men against Bristol was followed up with the 4-0 thrashing of QPR in midweek.
Three more points at home to Cardiff City tomorrow would be the icing on the cake of an excellent week for Nottingham Forest.
