Nottingham Forest boss Sabri Lamouchi insists that João Carvalho remains an important player for the Reds.
Nottingham Forest manager Sabri Lamouchi has suggested to the Nottingham Post that he’ll do everything to keep the midfielder at the City Ground in January.
The Frenchman also suggested that Carvalho’s lack of pre-season is a key reason behind why he hasn’t been able to hit the ground running this season.
According to Fotospor, Turkish Süper Lig outfit Trabzonspor are interested in signing Carvalho in January. Unal Karaman has reportedly been recommended the midfielder as a potential target.
The Reds are doing well in the Championship at the moment, but Carvalho has been nothing more than a peripheral figure.
Lamouchi told the Nottingham Post: “I have a squad and João is very important in the squad. I know about his quality, and I trust him to be ready when I call him.
“At the beginning for João, it was difficult with his ankle injury. Without the pre-season, it was difficult.
“I know about his quality. For sure, he will help us. He just has to keep going.”
Given Carvalho’s lack of first-team action at the moment, one should not be surprised if his name continues to feature in the gossips columns over the next month or so.
However, Lamouchi seems sure that the midfielder still has a big role to play at the City Ground. This is likely to be music to the ears of many Nottingham Forest supporters.
The Reds are currently sat in fifth-place in the Championship. They have picked up 33 points from 19 matches so far.
Lamouchi’s side will return to action tonight when they take on Middlesbrough at home in the Championship. Carvalho will be hoping for a chance to impress in the starting line-up.
