Charlton Athletic boss Lee Bowyer has responded to speculation regarding Lyle Taylor’s future at the club, amid reports linking him with a move away.
According to Team Talk, Nottingham Forest are said to be interested in the striker, as well as Premier League sides Sheffield United and Burnley. Bristol City are also said to be monitoring his situation.
The 29-year-old showed that he’s more than capable of scoring goals in the Championship before picking up his injury. He netted five goals in his first six games, including a goal against the Reds in August.
However, he’s only recently returned from injury having been on the sidelines for three months. He returned off-the-bench against Middlesbrough at the weekend, and played against Huddersfield Town last night.
Having seen Taylor’s goalscoring ability, Bowyer wouldn’t be surprised to see multiple bids come in for the striker in January.
“The question is if we can keep him, not if clubs will come in for him,” Bowyer told News Shopper.
“Clubs all know what he can do before the start of this season.
“He’s showed he can score goals in this division and that’s what teams want. They tried to take him before he even proved it.
“Do I think clubs will come in for him? 1 million percent yes.”
Charlton made a very promising start to the season in the Championship, and Taylor played a key part in that. However, there’s no doubt that the Addicks are currently sliding down the table at an alarming rate.
Taylor may be tempted by a move away from the club in January to push his career onto the next level.
It’s fair to say that he would be welcomed with open arms by Sabri Lamouchi.
The Frenchman desperately needs attacking reinforcements. He currently only has Lewis Grabban and Rafa Mir to choose from.
Taylor has shown he can score goals, and would provide the Reds with some added firepower for the second-half of the season.
