Young guns react as Nottingham Forest lose to Chelsea in the FA Cup

Nottingham Forest were beaten 2-0 by Chelsea on a day when the club’s youngsters did the football club proud.

The Reds lost the game courtesy of first-half goals from Callum Hudson-Odoi and Ross Barkley.

Boss Sabri Lamouchi saw a battling display from his team, however, despite making 10 changes and choosing to utilise the club’s academy.

Alex Mighten recently signed a new contract for the club and on his Stamford Bridge showing it looks like a wise move.

The 17-year-old looked lively and showed maturity beyond his years playing in attack for the Reds.

After the game he took to Twitter to speak of his delight at making his first start in such a sizeable game:

Mighten should have won Forest a first-half penalty kick. Referee Peter Bankes did point to the spot but VAR ruled the teenager had strayed just offside.

Tyrese Fornah is another player who made his first appearance for the club. He came off the bench to replace Alfa Semedo for the last 21 minutes.

With Jordan Smith replacing Brice Samba in goal, George Shelvey was the man in reserve on the bench.

He is another player who has risen through the ranks and he has played frequently for the club’s under-23s this season.

A boyhood Forest fan, Shelvey was delighted to be involved in the trip:

The man responsible for unearthing and nurturing the three youngsters and Yassine En-Neyah who was also introduced from the bench is Gary Brazil.

He too took to social media to rave about a special day for the football club given the number of academy stars on show against Premier League opposition:
