Nottingham Forest have been linked with Newcastle United striker Dwight Gayle.
The Reds are currently sat in the play-off places in the Championship. They have the opportunity to make a big push in the second-half of the season, and could even challenge for automatic promotion.
There have already been numerous players linked with a move to the City Ground this month. Newcastle United striker Dwight Gayle is one name to have been mentioned.
However, it doesn’t seem likely that the 29-year-old will be part of Sabri Lamouchi’s squad come the end of the month. According to the Telegraph, Newcastle are offering the striker to Championship clubs on a ‘free’ loan, but will demand a £20 million fee on promotion.
Not only this, but the Magpies will insist that any club pay his £60,000 wages in full.
If the Reds hadn’t already moved on, they most certainly will have done now.
It’s even more surprising that the Magpies have put this sort of deal on the table considering that Gayle is currently sidelined through injury. The fact he isn’t even available to play is likely to have put the majority of potential suitors off.
One of the main reasons why the Reds have performed so well this season is the spirit of the squad. Signing Gayle on £60,000-a-week wages would only threaten to ruin that harmony.
That being said, a player of Gayle’s quality would certainly be a welcome addition.
The Reds will be hoping they can secure the signature of a striker in a far more feasible deal before the window slams shut.
