Nottingham Forest could be about to sign highly-rated youngster Marcus McGuane, according to reports in Holland.

The 20-year-old Barcelona prospect spent the first half of the 2019/20 campaign in the Netherlands with Telstar SC.

It is claimed in the report that Forest have ‘reached an agreement’ to sign the player.

A central midfield player, he scored one goal and registered three assists in 16 league and cup appearances.

McGuane made the leap to sign for Barcelona from Arsenal in 2018. The Catalan giants felt his potential was so high that a buyout clause of £21.9 million was placed in his contract (BBC).

He has played 24 games for Barcelona B and he made two Europa League appearances for the Gunners’ first-team as a teenager.

One stumbling block on the deal at the moment is Telstar not wanting to lose their loan player.

Originally he signed on a season-long loan and they want to be compensated should Barcelona break that agreement to send him to Forest.

The report from Noordhollands Dagblad claims that it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that McGuane will return to Telstar.

He has been in England for over a week discussing with English clubs and Forest look set to win the race for his signature.

This will be another example of a player arriving as an unknown quantity from an overseas club.

As a result, Forest fans should be intrigued.

Samba Sow, Brice Samba, Yuri Ribeiro were all unknown quantities when they arrived and all thriving in the first-team.

It will be interesting to see what McGuane will bring to the Forest setup but with bags of potential, it could be an attractive signing.
