Nottingham Forest are set to complete a deal to sign Ilyas El Khabchi, according to Team Talk.
The 21-year-old had been training with Forest towards the back end of last year but an injury ruined his chances of securing a deal.
A midfield maestro, he was spotted by the foreign scouting network at the City Ground, playing for fifth-tier French outfit Jura Dolois.
He recently returned to his homeland for treatment on his injury but has been training with Chris Cohen’s under-23 ranks recently.
Boss Sabri Lamouchi was sufficiently impressed with El Khabchi during his first stint with the development squad.
If he impresses again this month a contract could be offered to him and he will likely spend the season in Cohen’s ranks.
This won’t be the signing that Forest fans want to hear about.
The Reds are in need of a striker to compete for a place in the team with Lewis Grabban.
With 14 goals this season the Forest hitman is established as the primary striker, but competition for his place is badly needed.
Rafa Mir endured a miserable spell and has now gone to Huesca and Tyler Walker is on loan at Lincoln City.
El Khabchi could turn out to be a good player in the future and Forest fans will watch his development with intrigue.
The club’s academy has nurtured some fine players over the years and the French prospect will bid to become the next cab off the rank.
