Sheffield United are interested in signing Nottingham Forest defender Jack Robinson, according to The Sun‘s Alan Nixon.

Premier League outfit Sheffield United are interested in signing Jack Robinson from Nottingham Forest before this month’s transfer window slams shut, according to well-respected journalist Alan Nixon.

The 26-year-old hasn’t featured for Forest since New Year’s Day. He has fallen behind both Yuri Ribeiro and Chema Rodríguez in the pecking order at left-back in the last few weeks.

Taking that into account, it perhaps isn’t surprising that Robinson may be open to a move away from the City Ground.

However, it’s surprising that the Blades are interested in the defender. He’s proven to be a solid performer at Championship level, but he’s unlikely to have what it takes to perform in the Premier League.

Sabri Lamouchi has stated that he doesn’t want to lose any important players this month. This suggests that he considers Robinson to be a fringe player.

Solid

It just hasn’t worked out for him at the City Ground this season.

He has made 18 appearances this season in the Championship. However, he hasn’t been able to match the performances that he produced last season, particularly under the management of Aitor Karanka.

Robinson is a useful player to have in the squad, but the Reds should be able to cope without him.

Lamouchi has both Ribeiro and Rodríguez available to play left-back. It’s unlikely that both of them will be out injured at the same time.

Robinson’s ability to play at centre-back as well as at left-back may be why the Blades are interested. Chris Wilder plays with overlapping centre-backs which Robinson is capable of doing.

Whether or not he’d be capable of doing that in the Premier League is another question entirely.

Wilder may fancy his chances of getting the best out of him though.

Robinson wasn’t included in Lamouchi’s squad for today’s game against Luton, which suggests that he may be close to a move to Bramall Lane.
