Nottingham Forest are set to rival Leeds United for the services of Sheffield United attacking midfielder Luke Freeman, according to The Sun on Sunday (26/10; page 61).

The Blades broke their club transfer record when they paid £5 million to QPR to sign Freeman in the summer.

Chris Wilder did later break his club’s transfer record again and the 27-year-old has struggled in his first season at Bramall Lane.

Freeman has started six games in all competitions, registering just a single assist in the way of goal contributions.

The former Bristol City man hasn’t been in the Blades’ squad for the last four matches and could move out on loan.

Forest have added Adama Diakhaby to their ranks so far this January but more creative options are being sought.

Freeman is a proven Football League performer and he could be a solid addition to any Championship club this month.

Leeds are also thought to be interested but the Reds are likely to rival their fellow promotion hopefuls for his signature.

Having spoken at length about wanting to add a few players to his squad, Lamouchi will be hoping to see some new faces arrive this week.

Nottingham Forest News View – Freeman could be the creative spark to ignite serious automatic promotion push

Freeman scored nine goals and registered eight assists last season in a QPR team that was relatively poor.

He set up the goal that secured QPR’s first-ever victory at the City Ground in December 2018 and proved a nuisance throughout that contest.

Last season he played largely as a left-winger, although Forest might choose to utilise him as a number 10.

Having someone with his versatility could be just the tonic for Lamouchi and he’d be an attractive addition to the squad.

At 27 and having hardly played this season he will be desperate to prove a point and the option of a permanent deal, if he impresses, shouldn’t be ruled out.
