Nottingham Forest roared into third place in the Championship with a stunning 1-0 win against Brentford at Griffin Park.
A 14th minute Joe Lolley strike was enough to send Forest just two points behind West Bromwich Albion who lost 2-1 to Cardiff City.
After relinquishing a lead in their last outing against Reading, this game was always going to be a big one for the Reds.
Boss Sabri Lamouchi clearly benefitted from a weekend with his team on the training ground. His side were organised, well-drilled and showed determination beyond belief.
Lolley’s return to form is significant. Prior to Christmas, he had found himself at the brunt of supporter criticism but he has responded emphatically.
A goal against Blackburn was followed by two against Luton and his crucial winner at Brentford came in a timely fashion.
The 27-year-old raised the bar ridiculously high last season. He netted 12 goals and registered 11 assists during the campaign, winning Player of the Year in the process.
Although his goal and assist return had dropped off during 2019/20 it wasn’t through a lack of effort.
Since the turn of the year, Lolley has been stunning. His goal ratio has improved and he once again looks like Forest’s matchwinner.
The Reds will hope that he continues his rich vein of form.
Next up is Birmingham, who the man signed from Huddersfield loves to score against.
The lifelong Aston Villa supporter has scored five times against the Blues, during spells with the Terriers and Forest.
Lamouchi will now hope to add a couple of players to his ranks prior to Friday’s deadline.
Some areas are still light on the ground but he will hope that is sorted by the time the window closes.
If Lolley can continue this purple patch, he might be like a new signing for the Reds with 17 games left to play.
