The Reds headed to the West Midlands in need of a win, with difficult games coming up against the likes of Leeds United and West Bromwich Albion who are currently above them in the table.

Sabri Lamouchi’s men did get off to a good start. Tiago Silva scored the opening goal with a well-taken strike after just 18 minutes.

Lewis Grabban had the opportunity to double their advantage, but couldn’t convert from the penalty spot. The Reds were punished for this when Scott Hogan equalised just minutes before half-time.

The Blues were a different proposition in the second-half. They were much-improved and got themselves ahead courtesy of Kristian Pedersen with around 15 minutes to go, which was enough to secure the three points.

The Reds now find themselves sat fourth in the Championship, just four points in the play-offs – and fans will be hoping for a much-improved display in next weekend’s game against Leeds.

One player who has been criticised for his performance yesterday is new signing Adama Diakhaby. The 23-year-old was introduced as a substitute for Sammy Ameobi with an hour played.

‘Awful’, ‘Liability’

It was only his second appearance for the Reds but some supporters weren’t holding back in their assessment of the winger. Some fans called him ‘awful’ and a ‘liability’, suggesting that he might be a poor signing.

That being said, there’s still plenty of time for Diakhaby to show what he can do this season.

He’s only been at the City Ground a short period of time. He’ll be hoping he can make a more positive impact against Leeds next weekend.
