Nottingham Forest rekindled their hopes of an automatic promotion place with a superb 1-0 win away at mid-table Cardiff City.

The Reds secured a vital three points thanks to Tiago Silva’s second goal in a Forest shirt. The Portuguese maestro slotting home following some good hold up play by Lewis Grabban.

Forest went into the game on the back of three winless fixtures and their place in the top-six under threat from the likes of Preston, Bristol City and Blackburn.

The Reds not only left the Welsh capital with all three points but they also won them on a night when all of their rivals were beaten.

Preston lost at West Brom, Bristol City lost at Huddersfield and Brentford were surprisingly beaten at Luton Town.

That saw Forest create a six-point gap to seventh place and increase the club’s chances of winning a crack at reaching the Premier League.

Leeds have a three-point gap on Sabri Lamouchi’s team but could extend that with a win over Middlesbrough tonight.

Forest have been unbelievable away from home this season. They are only bettered on their travels by West Brom and have taken 31 points from 18 games away from the City Ground during 2019/20.

Pundits and supporters of other clubs have claimed throughout the campaign that Forest aren’t that good. With 11 games left, however, there are no false league positions and Lamouchi’s team are there on merit.
