Charlton Athletic manager Lee Bowyer has told London News Online that Nottingham Forest now have two of the best strikers in the Championship following Lyle Taylor’s move to the City Ground.

The 30-year-old checked in on a free transfer at the weekend after leaving the Addicks at the end of his contract.

He will join Lewis Grabban in the Forest goalscoring ranks and Bowyer believes it’s a good move for the lethal talisman.

The boss told London News Online: “It’s a good move and, let’s be honest, he has earned it. It didn’t finish the way we all wanted at Charlton.

“You can’t take away what he did what for us over those years – the goals he scored for us and what he brought to the team at the top end of the pitch. That is why he’s going to play for a good Nottingham Forest team.

“You need strikers, like every team needs strikers. If you look at the teams near the top, maybe they (Forest) fell a bit short when (Lewis) Grabban was not quite at it. Did they have other options as good as Lyle? Probably not.

“Forest have got two very good strikers, two of probably the better ones in the whole division.”

Bowyer will be preparing for League One next season, relegated at the first time of asking from the Championship.

His team did catch the eye, however, and played particularly well when a Taylor goal earned them a 1-0 win over Forest at the City Ground.

Reinforcements

Forest have desperately well to land Taylor and after 11 goals for the Addicks last season, he will hope to be back among the goals during 2020/21.

Sabri Lamouchi did struggle last season when Grabban wasn’t quite at it. Tyler Walker is still pretty raw at Championship level and Nuno Da Costa is still adapting to life in English football.

With Taylor now at the club, Forest have a nice mix of strikers and his quality should allow Lamouchi to mix things up a bit.

Forest finished seventh last season, slipping out of the top-six for the first time since December in the last minute of the final game.

That is now consigned to the past though and with Taylor, Jack Colback and Tyler Blackett all added before pre-season training, the Reds have made a solid start to their transfer dealings ahead of 2020/21.
