Lyle Taylor checked in at Nottingham Forest over the weekend, signing on a free transfer after leaving Charlton Athletic at the end of last season.

Following his arrival at the City Ground, the 30-year-old began to follow his new teammates on Instagram.

Interestingly, yesterday the striker started following a player who Forest were linked with just last week in the form of Jacob Murphy.

The Newcastle winger is set to be loaned out against this summer and according to Team Talk, the Reds are one of several clubs interested.

Forest will face competition from Middlesbrough, Derby County and Stoke for his services but could Taylor’s Instagram activity suggest he is heading to Forest?

In truth, it probably doesn’t. Taylor and Murphy’s paths might have crossed as opponents but nonetheless, this will have some Forest fans very intrigued indeed.

Signing Murphy would enhance Sabri Lamouchi’s options out wide considerably. Last season he netted nine goals and registered six assists on loan at Sheffield Wednesday.

Things haven’t really worked out for him at St James’ Park though and in 41 games, he’s scored once and registered three assists.

Given that Newcastle are unlikely to want to sell him on the cheap, and the fact he’s on £25,000-a-week, it seems certain he will head out on loan again.

Forest had Joe Lolley and Sammy Ameobi as their first choice wingers last season but in reserve, they could do with some reinforcements.

He could prove to be a very shrewd signing for a club in the Championship and Forest supporters will undoubtedly hope there is substance in Taylor’s activity on Instagram.
