Sheffield Wednesday look to have won the race to sign Chelsea youngster Izzy Brown, with Yorkshire Live citing Nottingham Forest as one of the unfortunate clubs to miss out on his signature.

The player who typically operates as a No.10 was also subject to interest from QPR and newly relegated Bournemouth.

Brown, 23 is set to be unveiled as a Wednesday player in the next 24 hours and he will bolster Garry Monk’s ranks ahead of the new season.

The Chelsea talent is no stranger to loan spells having previously spent time with Vitesse, Rotherham, Huddersfield, Brighton, Leeds and Luton.

Last season he scored one goal and registered seven assists at Kenilworth Road, helping the Hatters to Championship survival.

It’s no secret that Forest are on the lookout for a few more new recruits, particularly in attacking positions.

The beauty of Brown would have been his ability to operate in a number of positions, both out wide and through the middle.

Given his injury problems, however, some Forest fans might be glad this one couldn’t get over the line but only time will tell.

The Reds have already added Jack Colback, Tyler Blackett and Lyle Taylor to their ranks this summer, with all three arriving on free transfers.

More are expected to arrive before the season gets underway next month, but Brown doesn’t look like being one of them.

Our View – Forest might have had a lucky escape with Chelsea youngster

On the face of things, Brown hasn’t ever really set fire wherever he has played on loan.

He has spent a lot of time out injured and that hasn’t helped the chances of his career really coming to life.

Forest need any loan additions to come in and be capable of stepping into the first-team and the club can ill-afford to carry an injury-prone player for a season.

Of course, Wednesday could be the club where Brown really comes to life but most Forest fans will be pretty satisfied that he’s not chosen the City Ground.
