Nottingham Forest are in talks with Scottish Premiership outfit Aberdeen over the signing of Scott McKenna, according to The Telegraph.
The Reds were beaten 2-0 by Cardiff City yesterday and Sabri Lamouchi’s men are yet to score a goal during 2020/21.
Joe Worrall and Tobias Figueiredo are the current first-choice centre-backs but it would seem Lamouchi is keen for a rethink.
McKenna, 23, is a product of the youth academy at Aberdeen and has been on the radar of Celtic and Rangers previously (The Scotsman).
In total the uncompromising central defender has played 118 times for the Dons and has also won 16 caps for Scotland.
This season he has played in four of Aberdeen’s five games in the Scottish Premiership and in games against NSI Runavik and Viking in the Europa League.
It is thought that Forest are hopeful of a breakthrough in the talks in the next few days, with the Reds due to travel to Huddersfield on Friday night.
Forest will probably seek to offload a central defender if this deal comes to fruition.
Loic Mbe Soh has been added to the ranks this summer, which Michael Hefele and Yohan Benalouane are both on the books still.
McKenna is a left-footed central defender and in that sense, he would offer Forest something which they don’t currently have.
Both Worrall and Figueiredo have suffered from a crisis in confidence in the last few months and it would seem one of the two is set to drop out.
With Mbe Soh added to the ranks too, it might not be too long before supporters see a new look Forest central defensive partnership.
McKenna has been a wanted man for some time and the Reds look to have won the race for the player rated highly north of the border.
