Nottingham Forest are reportedly trying to offload a minimum of five players before the transfer window closes next month.

That’s according to The Athletic’s Forest correspondent Paul Taylor who made the claim on Twitter.

Michael Hefele and Yohan Benalouane are set to be deemed surplus to requirements with Scott McKenna set to check in from Aberdeen.

Winger Albert Adomah is another player not currently training with the first-team and he’s not thought to be in Sabri Lamouchi’s plans either.

The ex-Middlesbrough player went on loan to Cardiff City last season but is now way down the pecking order.

Another is Zach Clough who hasn’t played for the Reds since January 2018 during a 2-0 win over Wolves.

The forward signed for the Reds in 2017 from Bolton and at £2.5 million it seemed as though he would be a steal.

Sadly, things haven’t worked out and a number of managers haven’t fancied him to make an impact on the team.

Another who the club are working to offload is left-back Gaetan Bong, who has played just once since signing from Brighton.

He lasted just under an hour of a 1-0 defeat to Charlton in February and has barely been seen in the first-team fold since.

The club would like to get the 32-year-old off the books, with just a year left on his current contract.

Our View – Forest have worked hard on signings, now they must do the same with the outgoings

Scott McKenna’s arrival will make it 34 first-team players on the books at Forest – a figure which is frankly eyewatering.

Of course, the Reds will be working hard behind the scenes to shift some players but wanting to do it and actually doing it are two different things.

It’ll be interesting to see whether there is a cash reserve which allows the Reds to terminate any contracts before the window closes at all.

Other players could leave alongside the ones mentioned.

Joao Carvalho is down the pecking order, whilst there have been some links this summer involving Tiago Silva and Yuri Ribeiro with moves away.

One thing that is certain is that the squad at the City Ground is once again becoming bloated and the hard work now starts to rectify that.
