Nottingham Forest have been dealt an injury blow with The Sun claiming that Joe Worrall has injured his foot and will miss five to six weeks.

The 23-year-old played in every Championship game last season for the Reds and started both of the club’s league games this season.

Now it seems as though he’s set for a period on the fringes, however, with the report suggesting he will be out for over a month.

Worrall enjoyed a decent season during 2019/20, although his form did tail off towards the back end of the campaign, with Forest struggling for form.

It was his first campaign back at the City Ground, with Aitor Karanka choosing to loan him out to Rangers for the 2018/19 campaign.

During his time at Ibrox, he earned praise from manager Steven Gerrard and played 32 times, including four appearances in the Europa League.

Worrall is Forest through and through and missing games won’t be an easy situation for him to contend with.

Normally very reliable when it comes to not picking up injuries, the academy graduate will be forced to watch on from the sidelines.

Forest have Tobias Figueiredo, Scott McKenna, Loic Mbe Soh and Michal Dawson all vying for two places now.

One thing that will not be put to bed is the transfer interest from Burnley, with the Clarets thought to be keen on the defender.

With Sean Dyche lacking players at the moment it seems unlikely he will sign someone who he can’t call upon for over a month.

Forest and Burnley have been miles apart in terms of valuation but it had been anticipated they might return with another offer nearer the deadline.

NFN Verdict – Unfortunate timing for Worrall but he’ll bounce back

Worrall hasn’t endured too many injury setbacks during his career and he’ll surely bounce back.

For Forest they are well-stocked but the decision now will be who replaces him at the heart of the defence.

It probably earns Tobias Figueiredo a reprieve and having spent money on them, it’s probably a toss-up between Mbe Soh and McKenna.

Given that the ex-Aberdeen man is left-footed you have to say that he will probably be the favourite to start at Huddersfield tomorrow night.

It will certainly be interesting to see which avenue Sabri Lamouchi goes down when his team is announced tomorrow night.
