Nottingham Forest are to rival Swansea City for the signing of Corey Blackett-Taylor, according to a report by the Daily Mail.
The Reds are thought to be in the market for a winger as Sabri Lamouchi searches for the final piece of his jigsaw.
Blackett-Taylor has made just one Carabao Cup appearance this season and hasn’t been in the squad for any of Tranmere’s league games.
The 23-year-old looks likely to leave Prenton Park before the window closes and Forest are among the clubs chasing his signature.
A former Aston Villa youngster, he is capable of playing on either flank and that versatility would probably suit the Reds.
Lamouchi has been known to swap his wingers around during games and being competent on both sides would help.
Blackett-Taylor won’t break the bank with his current club looking for around £100,000 for the player.
The Tranmere man would perhaps represent a bit of a strange signing given that his numbers aren’t overly great.
In 35 appearances for Rovers, he has scored five goals and registered six assists, although he hasn’t played loads of men’s football.
At 23 there is plenty of time for him to improve and Blackett-Taylor did manage to get himself two first-team outings for Aston Villa.
Swansea and Millwall are interested and it’ll be interesting to see if any concrete bids go in for the Tranmere ace.
NFN Verdict – Forest should perhaps steer clear of Blackett-Taylor
If the Reds are going to add a winger it should be a tried and tested option.
Blackett-Taylor would perhaps represent one for the future and sadly that’s not what Forest need right now.
Alex Mighten is also in the squad right now and adding another youngster could possibly hamper his progress at first-team level.
The Tranmere man would be a cheap option but perhaps isn’t the right player for Forest at this time.
