Lincoln City boss Michael Appleton raved about on-loan Nottingham Forest youngster Brennan Johnson after his side beat Blackpool 3-2 at Bloomfield Road.
The 19-year-old will spend the 2020/21 season with the Imps and he is already making quite an impact on his new club.
Johnson won two penalties for Appleton’s team yesterday, with the boss choosing to line him up on the right-hand side of midfield.
Both spot kicks were despatched by former Forest man Jorge Grant but it was Johnson who earned special praise from his boss.
Appleton told Lincolnshire Live: “He’s a top-notch player. We’re not going to have him next week because of his Wales call-up.
“That’s the kind of player he is though. We pushed him inside when we brought Conor McGrandles off and brought Harry Anderson on. Harry was great when he came on and changed the game a little bit.”
Forest will hope Johnson gets plenty of game time at Lincoln and with them sat top of the league he could be in for a good season.
The versatile attack-minded player looks set for a bright future and the Reds clearly see this loan as a vital stage in his development.
It’s a positive sign that after two games, Johnson is having an impact on games.
Yesterday, he expertly won two penalties for his team and was a constant menace to the Blackpool defence.
The challenge for Johnson is to get some games, enjoy his football and ultimately return to Forest a better player next season.
With the likes of Tiago Silva and Joao Carvalho both being shipped out of the City Ground, the pathway has become clearer for Johnson.
A good loan spell could signal a regular run of games in the Forest first-team.
