Former Nottingham Forest man Jermaine Jenas has called upon the club’s supporters to back Chris Hughton after he was appointed as the new manager on Tuesday evening.

The BBC and BT Sport pundit took to Instagram to comments on Forest’s post which showed Hughton being unveiled with the home shirt of his new club.

Jenas emerged through the youth academy on Trentside, playing 29 times before signing for Newcastle United for a fee worth £5 million as an 18-year-old.

During the 2012/13 campaign, the central midfield returned on loan playing six matches when Sean O’Driscoll was in charge of the club.

Following Forest’s decision to make a managerial change and place the 61-year-old Hughton in charge, Jenas has made a plea to supporters.

Jenas also took the time to respond to a fan with further praise for Hughton, after he was advised that the new boss needs to be given time and backing from the board.

Hughton has won promotion twice during his career with Newcastle and Brighton and arrives in Nottingham with the remit extremely clear.

Forest have added 13 players to their ranks this summer and promotion is very much the order of the day for the new boss.

Hughton must arrest a run of form that has seen the Reds lose seven games on the spin and score just once in five games this season.

Jenas is certainly hopeful over the latest appointment and he isn’t the only one to back the appointment.

Stan Collymore tweeted his satisfaction after the appointment, whilst Tottenham legend Ossie Ardiles also took time out to congratulate the former Republic of Ireland star.

Hughton’s first game in charge of the Reds will come a week on Saturday when they travel to Blackburn Rovers.
