Nottingham Forest duo Harry Arter and Scott McKenna are set to miss out on the opportunity to impress new Reds boss Chris Hughton during international duty.

Republic of Ireland midfielder Arter is set for a scan on a thigh injury picked up during Saturday’s 2-1 defeat against Bristol City (BBC).

McKenna missed the weekend’s game and the ex-Aberdeen man has now been ruled out of all three of Scotland’s international games.

The 23-year-old is thought to only be nursing a minor injury but boss Steve Clarke has said he won’t be available for selection (BBC).

McKenna played during the recent 1-0 defeat to Huddersfield Town, making his debut for the club alongside Loic Mbe Soh.

Arter has now played twice and the fact he is facing a scan on his thigh does provide cause for concern for Forest ahead of their forthcoming games.

Both players would have relished the chance to try and produce the goods for their country ahead of returning back to the City Ground to meet the new manager.

Forest are well-stocked at both centre-back and in the heart of midfielder, although McKenna’s injury might provide the most cause for issue.

The Reds are already without Joe Worrall who has a foot injury, whilst it remains to be seen whether Tobias Figueiredo will come in from the cold under Hughton.

Arter has looked decent during his first two games for the club and should grow into his midfield role under Hughton.

Forest return to action against Blackburn a week on Saturday and the Reds face an anxious wait to see if the duo will be fit enough to travel to Ewood Park.
