The League Managers Association have released a statement from Sabri Lamouchi after the Frenchman departed Nottingham Forest this week.

The 48-year-old boss was in charge at the City Ground for 15 months, leading Forest to their best league position in 1o years last season.

It’s fair to say the 2019/20 season finished in disappointing style though, with the Reds dropping out of the top six for the first time since Boxing Day in the final minute of the final game.

Forest kept faith in Lamouchi but he failed to arrest the team’s slump, losing all five games he oversaw in all competitions this season.

The manager gave Forest some great memories, despite the season ultimately ending in disappointment.

From the statement, Lamouchi paid homage to the supporters in a heartfelt thanks for the continued backing he received from the loyal fanbase.

He told the League Managers Association: “To the fans, it was an honour to work for your great club. We lived a season that I will never forget. You sang my name and you made me feel a part of your club.

“I hope that your dreams will come true and that the club will reach the top. I hope I have the opportunity to see you again in the City Ground one day.”

Lamouchi has been linked with an instant return to football with Qatari side Al Duhail, having tasted success in the Middle East before.

His final message from the statement was for new boss Chris Hughton, who he sent his very best wishes too.

Lamouchi continued: “I am looking forward to my next challenge and I wish Nottingham Forest and the new coach every success for the future.”

NFN Verdict – Professional until the end, J’adore Sabri

Despite his sacking, Sabri Lamouchi can walk away from Nottingham Forest with his held high.

He tried and ultimately failed to get the club promoted and he came closer than anyone else has in over 10 years. For that he deserves credit.

Lamouchi proved himself to be professional, dignified and showed loyalty to the club when Watford came calling in the New Year.

His statement is typical of the man and Stoke away, Leeds at home and the two wins over Derby will be looked back on by supporters with great fondness.

J’adore Sabri. All the best.
